To increase virtual memory in Windows, follow these steps:
1. Open System Properties
- Right-click on the Start menu and select System.
- Click on Advanced system settings on the left sidebar. This will open the System Properties window.
2. Open Performance Settings
- In the System Properties window, click on the Settings button under the Performance section.
3. Go to the Virtual Memory Settings
- In the Performance Options window, go to the Advanced tab.
- Under Virtual Memory, click the Change… button.
4. Adjust Virtual Memory
- Uncheck the box that says Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.
- Select the drive (usually C:) where you want to change the virtual memory settings.
- Select Custom size and set the Initial size (minimum) and Maximum size (recommended or more) in MB (megabytes).
- Initial size: Set this to at least the amount of RAM in your PC.
- Maximum size: You can set this to 1.5 to 3 times the amount of your installed RAM.
- Click Set and then OK.
5. Restart Your Computer
- After adjusting virtual memory, restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Notes:
- Increasing virtual memory can help improve system performance when physical RAM is insufficient, but it’s not a substitute for upgrading your RAM.
- Make sure you have enough free disk space on the drive where virtual memory is stored.
By following these steps, you can increase the virtual memory and potentially improve the performance of your system.
